Dr. G Jagadeesh

Chair

Dr. Gowraganahalli Jagadeesh holds a doctorate degree in Pharmacology. He taught and researched in that area for more than 4 decades in India, Canada and the US. Currently he works for the US Food and Drug Administration as a Senior Expert Pharmacologist. In addition, he is highly involved in science philanthropy promoting academic excellence in research and teaching in Indian Universities/colleges besides aiding a school in his native village. In the non-academic arena, he was on the executive committee of Kaveri Kannada cultural organization, 2 terms Chapter President and member of board of directors of VSNA. He is highly influenced by Guru Basaveshwara for his brilliant mentorship in molding downtrodden and illiterate persons to learn and write sophisticated scriptures. His favorite vachanas are those emphasizing that ‘our actions should match our words and we must balance our speech with our deeds’. This was the rationale behind developing the theme vachana for the current convention. He is married to Jayashree and the couple have a daughter (Shilpa), son (Neetal) and daughter-in-law (Vinita).

Shashidar Nagenalli

Co-Chair

Shashidar Nagenalli hails from nearby Shivamogga. Growing up in India, due to his father’s transferable job, he has lived in Mangalore, Bengaluru, Bellary and Surathkal . He has Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s degree in System Analysis and Computer Application both from National Institute of Technology Surathkal. He is an IT professional working for Xerox services’s Transportation, Central and Local Government division since 2000. He is a subject matter expert in the back office processing for electronic toll collection system. He has been associated with VSNA Md chapter for a decade. He has held various roles in the chapter's executive committee ending with president ship for the year 2012 and 2013. He lives with his wife Ambika Nagenalli who grew up in Birur in Chikamagalur district and graduate of Kuvempu University. They are blessed with a son Trishul Nagenalli who is a rising senior and daughter Tarini Nagenalli who is in 4th grade.

Dr Savitha Shivananda

President

Dr. Savitha Shivananda is an internal medicine physician practicing in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the Vice President of medical staff at Franklin square hospital and member of board of directors at MedStar Franklin square. She is from Bangalore and moved to the USA after her marriage to Siddalingaiah family. Her in-laws, Dr. Honnappa and Smt. Vimala Siddalingaiah, were one of the pioneers who were founder members of Central VSNA and envisioned the Chapter concepts with rotary model in mind. At a later date, the VSNA-MD chapter was constituted along with 20+ chapters. Savitha along with her daughters, Simran (19 yrs) and Sonum (15 yrs), have been very active in VSNA-MD chapter for years and now it's the chapter members are like her own family. Savitha's husband, Tharakesh, has been very active from the inception of Central VSNA as a Youth member and was instrumental in formatting and producing VSNA Directories, Newsletters and Souvenirs. She has been the VSNA-MD chapter president for last 2 years and honored to continue to preside as MD Chapter will host the 2016 VSNA convention.

Poornima Kori

Treasurer

Poornima Kori is originally from Bijapur,Karanataka. She was fortunate to grow up listening to Shri. Siddeshwar Swamiji's Pravachanas. Her favorite was "Japayagna" during every Shivarathri festival held in a large stadium with thousands of people. She affectionately remembers growing up with forty plus cousins. She feels that VSNA community has provided a similar structure for her children. Poornima has been member of VSNA for more than 18 years and has served as Maryland chapter's treasury secretary. She holds a Masters of Engineering degree and works at a Telecommunication Company in Germantown, Maryland. She lives with her husband Shanmukh and their children Megha and Deepa in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Aruna Basappa

Joint Treasurer

Aruna Basappa is originally from Bangalore India. She grew up in a joint family with her grandparents, aunts, cousins and has very fond memories of her childhood. Her grandparents had a profound influence in her life. Her grandfather taught her and cousins Yoga each morning. He also taught them Basaveshwara Vachanas and explained their meaning, while grandmother taught the youngsters the meaning of family and unconditional love. They were truly the pillars of our family. She went to school and college in Malleswaram, Bangalore. She got her Business degree from University of Maryland – College Park. She has lived in the US for 28 years. She currently resides in Montgomery County MD with husband Doranal Basappa and her two girls Nisha and Sapna. She works as a Finance Manager for a Government contractor in Washington DC
